Zipardi's day!

London - My oh my it's a wonderful day for a man from northern England who changed his legal name to Zipardi Duda.

Anthony Duda, from the town of Whitby on England's North East coast told a newspaper he'd taken on the off-beat name to promote a charity for children in Tanzania that he set up.

"His name happens to be Duda, which is a Polish name which you could pronounce "do-dah"," his lawyer Richard Atherton told reporters on Saturday. "Of course Zipardi just comes in naturally." he said.

"I think this is the first time someone's come to me with something like Zipardi Duda, but I assumed this happened quite a lot because you often hear of people adopting wacky names or names that will attract publicity," Atherton said.

"It was fascinating. It obviously seems to have struck a chord."

Duda told the Daily Star that his family name had for years prompted jokes from friends and that in the end he had given in. His new name echoes the title of the song Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah which featured in the 1946 Disney film Song Of The South.

"I'm a fun person and I like a laugh - so I thought it would be perfect to finally become Zipardi and help promote the charity at the same time," Duda said.

The paper said that Duda had received permission from the Walt Disney company for the change.
